Cyanobacteria, better known as blue-green algae, produce toxic substances that can make people sick. Swimming in water with blue-green algae can cause complaints such as headache, irritation of mucous membranes, diarrhea or fever. The Target Tube Cyano microcystin measures the gene in the bacterium responsible for the production of toxic substances. The fast qPCR measurement makes it possible to react within 2 hours to a contamination of swimming water. The analysis can be used in combination with faecal indicators, such as E.coli (article number 20040), Bacteroides dorei (article number U20042) and Enterococcus (article number 20045). Target Tubes are packed per 50 pieces and are ready for use. The shelf life is at least 1 year at room temperature, if stored in the dark.
The importance of this qPCR measurement is that we can measure the quality of swimming water on the day itself instead of 3 days before.
